New guy here, and I'm waaaay impressed with the knowledge of this forum already. I've been reading for 2 hours and have learned a ton, so thanks for that!
I have just acquired 7.3 IDI truck #3, figured I might want to actually learn something about them! "Others" fixing them is starting to get expensive.
My issues are as follows:
'94 E-350 Ambulance package van, 7.3 IDI non turbo with E4OD trans. 345,000 miles, rebuilt at 310,000, and new injectors.
1. Truck is a bear to start, but runs well once it does start. It takes 20-30 seconds of cranking to start it, even if i have just shut it off. Starts instantly with a shot of starter fluid. run it 1 minute or 3 hours, doesn't matter, if I turn it off, i have to crank the crap out of it to get it started again.
2. The OD light on the shifter flashes intermittently. Could be on for 2 minutes then off for 2 weeks, or vice versa! It may come on and go off several times in a day, or stay on or off for long periods of time.
I have replaced the FIPL (codes said to), and that helped for a while, then it came back. Weird thing, i've noticed that if it is off, if I fill up the tank, it will come on.
3.who has a GOOD manual on the injector pump. This injector pump thingy is voodoo to me. I need help understanding.
