7.3 idi as powerplant

Looking for some advice from the experts I have a log grapple/picker mounted on an older f600 with a 354? Tuned down version of 390 it was a uhaul truck that someone cobbed a picker onto. Right now the hydraulics are run off a pump off the pto on the tranns and you have to make that motor scream to run the pump and it still bogs down. So I was thinking I have an old f350 with a 7.3idi and e4od that the cab frame and tranns are all shot was used as a plow truck. I was thinking of mounting the motor on the frame between the cab and picker since its a rear mounted picker and run the hydraulic pump and maybe an air compressor just because with that. This will only be temporary until I build a log trailer to mount the picker on that. My question is if the tranns is shot (ie. Slips like a b**tard) how long would it hold up if I ran the pump off the driveshaft? Or can I somehow mount it direct to the motor?
