Took my truck in recently for a front end alignment. ~84k miles on the truck with no prior work or new parts on the front end.
--Except for the slightest pull to the right and an occasional, almost not perceptible vibration, I had no complaints. Was surprised when the shop told me they couldn't do the alignment because I have some worn front end parts I need to replace prior to an alignment. Let me say at this point, the shop is one I've used for years and trust and have never experienced them over-charging or performing extra work. With that said, here's what they came up with and I'm wondering if it seems reasonable. They want to use all Moog parts.
They found wear in and want to replace:
Both stab bar links (Moog K80041)
Track bar (Moog DS80798)
Tie rod end (Moog DS1438)
All four ball joints (Moog K8607T and K80026) --there was slight movement in all four.
On the labor charges,
.5hr for the stab bar
.5hr for the track bar
1 hr for the tie rod
.5hr for ball joints
4.1hr for "...replace front suspension knuckle, both sides"
On the stab bar, track bar and tie rod, do they really need to replace these parts ...or just the bushings on the ends of them?
And finally, since the front end will be pretty much disassembled is there anything else I should get done? How about any alternative parts that are more robust and won't wear as fast as the OEM ones did? With the camper I have on it, the truck runs around at max gross weight (and sometimes a bit beyond) most of the time
Thanks!
