Alright guys..here's the book (I like to be thorough)..I really hope someone can help me shed some light on this issue I've been having. I've looked the web over and can't find anything that is exactly like my issue.
Only when the engine is cold (i.e. not ran in a couple days, regardless of ambient temp) the truck will crank for about 4-5 seconds (sometimes longer), starts, runs smooth, but blows a good amount of very strong diesel smell white smoke. So smelly that if the windows are up, the smell in the cab is almost unbearable. It will blow the smoke until I drive it and it warms up above ~150*. I monitor coolant temp, oil temp, icp psi, egt, batt voltage, and trans temp with a cts. I had it checked with a snap-on solus. There are no fault codes, no CIL, no electronic indication that something is failing. My temps are in check, but that's kind of irrelevant because my EGR has been blocked (deleted). We isolated the injectors with the Solus and the audible "miss" seemed the same on all 8. My ICP pressure with a warm engine (190*-200*) is about 575 psi at idle, and at high idle, it is about 725 psi. WOT I am ~4000 psi.
Cold weather doesn't seem to make a huge difference because these issues started last fall (I know, I've waited). Also, after the first initial start of the day, the truck starts quick and easy the rest of the day with no smoke.
I had originally thought I had an issue in the glow plugs, but I'm not real sure. I'm more leaning toward an injector at this point. When she fires up, there's a good puff of black smoke then the following white smoke for minutes, not seconds. After warm, the smoke stops, but if I get on it from a red light, it will black smoke, which it never used to do. Though, the Solus isolation test yielded good results.
It had a top end rebuild 28k ago with studs, gaskets, new oil cooler, egr welded, turbo rebuild, all 8 injectors, and the list goes on. I've added a MBRP 4" turbo back. I am running an IDP tow tune, but tuned or not, the symptoms do not change. I've had no noticeable loss in power. Rotella T6 every 5k, power service every fill up, rev-x'd twice with no difference. In October 2013, I got rid of the 58v FICM, that failed btw, and got ficmrepair.com's ultra lifetime 48v w/ the php atlas 40 tune. I also put in a dc power 185 amp alternator.
I've got an Autoenginuity in the mail to possibly help me find out what's going on. All this being said, of the folks I know that have 6.0's, mine runs the quietest and smoothest. I'm stumped. All help is greatly appreciated and I will answer all questions to the best of my ability. Maybe some of you with AE's, can shed some light to help me diagnose. Huge thanks!:ford:
