Had to replace my brakes all the way around yesterday (pass rear ate the rotor) and found the drivers rear leaking oil. I had the wife grab parts while I pulled the axle and started cleaning it up. That's when it went downhill. I should have known from the rtv oozing out. It looked like someone removed the axle nut with a chisel and hammer. It appeared to still lock, so I didn't think that much about it. The rear seal had been pulled apart and copious amounts of rtv used to put it together. Nice. It was easy enough to see why it was leaking.
I put it all back together and went for a test spin. About 2mi up the road, the drivers rear locked up doing 60mph. The axle nit lock-failed-. It jammed that nut tight, and I broke 2 breaker bars trying to loosen it on the side of the road. Got a flatbed to get it home and the wheel rotated pulling it on the flatbed. Awesome---or so I thought.
I was able to use an impact and got the nut off. I then found the outer edge of the bearing cage and pulled it out. The hub is welded on the axle. The spinning was the inner race turning on the shaft, but it won't pull out.
Anybody have any bright ideas on pulling this without more damage??
