Starter Issue on a 03 6.0L

My trucks has about 239K miles (bought at 230K) and I believe the starter is original. It is one of the few things I didn't get replaced about 6K ago when I got all the work on it because the shop didn't say anything about it and it hadn't given me any problems.
Well this morning I turned the key (after cycling GP) and no sound, no turn, no click just dash lights on. I tried it a few times then moved the gear selector around and even changed tunes and same thing. I thought about the old tale of tapping the starter and grabbed a huge open end wrench (only heavy tool I had) and crawled underneath it and hit it pretty good 3-4 times. I went back in the cycled the GP then it started right up and I drove home. Once home I shut it down and tried a quick restart and the starter worked normally.
I believe this means the starter is going out. What do you think? This is the weekend and don't know if Ford can do it in a day and next week I have job training that is important. If I can't replace it today would the taps work if it doesn't start for 5 days or should I park it and get a rental?
Thanks
