My first diesel was the 1999 7.3L. since then I have had the 6.0, 6.4 and now the 6.7 with a GMC Duramax thrown in the mix.
Since I started learning about diesels in 1999, I have probably seen over 2 dozen diesel pickups blowing huge black clouds of soot. My thinking it is probably injectors or something similar. But my point is, of those I've seen, less than 1/2 dozen have been Ford or GM. The rest have been Dodge trucks.
I am not trying to start a brand war here, be it truck brand or diesel motor brand, but rather I am attempting to educate myself. Is this an issue that is more prevalent with Cummins diesel motors? Is it just poor maintenance? If so, does the Cummins require maintenance that others don't?
Like stated, I am not trying to start a brand war so I am not interested in derogatory comments towards other brands.
