I searched this forum and read a few threads / posts about this - but I still have a few questions.
97 - 2 wheel drive 1 ton dually
Story-
I pulled a 30 foot flatbed for a guy that had NO brakes (I know - my bad)
Anyway - a car pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes -
the right front caliper grabbed first / hard - and the entire wheel (spindle and all) rotated fore ward - bending the bottom of the radius arm at the "triangle shaped hole".
Had a shop replace the radius arm (junk yard) and brand new rubber bushings from Ford - The repair shop guys said they didn't see any visible damage to the hanger / tie rods / center axle mount / etc.
Truck pulled a little to the left - and when I went to get it aligned - the radius arm is "moving around" (mostly up and down) inside the hanger - causing "squirrleyness" in the steering - even after the alignment.
I haven't "broke it apart" yet - but the alignment guy said POSSIBLY when the spindle rotated - it might have smashed the bushing "lip" on the hanger and now the new bushing will not stay "centered" - which is why it is "moving around" inside the hanger.
I can either pull the radius out of the hanger - before drilling out the rivets - to check the condition of the hanger (PITA)
Or just drill the rivets and change the hanger ($100.00 EACH at O'riley Auto parts!!!!!)
Any suggestions on this?
Plus - which type of bushings - Rubber or Poly?
