After putting over 6000 into my 2001 F-350 7.3 it has developed a new problem that has even the dealership wondering. The work done on the engine was all new injector cups, cps, valve cover wiring harness, heads removed and resurfaced, oil pump tube and other misc. Now whenever I slow down to come to a stop at a stop light the engine will idle down and shut off but every now and then it catches itself. It will start right back up. I have noticed white smoke when starting it up and when it sits idling that smells like it is burning rich. The dealer wants me to allow them to replace the hpop at a cost of 1500 and if that doesn't work they want to try another fix that is almost as expensive but they are not sure of either. I have put a new trans. in for 7000 and now over 6000 in the engine and I am beginning to doubt their guesses. The engine runs perfect all other times other than when I am coming to a stop. Can anyone help?
