I suppose all you people are tired of hearing about all the troubles affiliated with a Ford 6L diesel, but I need some good advice and I know I can get it here.
I have a 2004 with 176k. At 60k, I had to have the EGR valve replaced, covered by warranty. At 103K, it went out again and also the EGR cooler was cracked, so they were replaced, not warranted. At about 140k, the EGR valve malfunctioned, so I did a bypass on the cooler and deleted the valve. At 165k the bypass kit failed and it apparently caused water to get on top of some of the cylinders, which when I tried to start it once, the starter wouldn't turn it over but thinking a weak battery, I tried it again and it fired off. I began to loose a good bit of water and vapors came out of the tailpipe, so I disassembled it and discovered the kit failure, so I put a delete kit on it and changed the oil cooler. It ran good for a while and I was proud of my being able to fix it(I'm 74). Now I'm still loosing water but no vapors. There is a small amount of pressure when I remove the cap. I feel like the head gaskets are blown, but it may be something else. I have tested the hpop by testing the current which according to one of the mechanics and instead of having a minimum of .80 volts which is supposed to be the very minimum to start up, I'm getting .77v. It is throwing a 2290 code. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Approximately what would it cost to repair it if it is headgaskets.
