I regularly drain the fuel water separator on my 2008 6.4. I usually drain every 30-45 days depending on use, weather, etc. Over the past year I started noticing a little bit of water (1/4-1/2 teaspoon that settles to the bottom of the sample bottle) and a little bit of debris (gel or waxy).
I know that the moisture can develop during cooler months, especially when the tank is only 1/2 full or less. I am guessing the gel or waxy debris (1/16 teaspoon or less) is probably bacteria or fungus.
I am planning on picking up a biocide (Bio Kleen) if I can find it at a local truck stop, no local auto parts stores carry it. I will change the fuel filters after a few tank treatments.
Should I be overly concerned with the water and debris or just follow my plans?
Also, which truck stops might carry a biocide? I have checked Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, Napa and Tractor Supply with no success.
Thanks,
OJ
