Do I Need Weight Distribution

I just traded my 2009 F-150 in and got a 2011 F-350. My problem is that the hitch receiver is about 3" higher than my old one. The Reese hitch that I have is already down as far as it can go. It looks like I would need to get a shank that could drop it at least 2 more inches in order for the trailer to tow close to level. The question came up about having this 1-ton truck and whether I would still need to have a weight distributing hitch with a trailer that only weighs 6300 lbs empty. Are there any other options for lowering the ball height other than getting a lower drop shank?
