losing power - pls help

I have a 2002 ford excurison with the 7.3L diesel. the engine light has been on for a while now and i know that it was a reduced power boost error. i was towing on saturday by necessity and had been driving for about an hour when suddenly my excursion started to slow down. i was losing power and unable to speed up to mainatain my speed. if i gave it too much fuel i started hearing a ticking nosie coming from where the turbo is located. long story short, the reduced power came and went seemingly unrelated to anythign i could figure out (other than hill angle, speed, pressure on fuel, etc). when i got home and turned it off, i got out and looked at the ngine and underneath. nothing exciting or obvious. i keyed it up to Acc, and this horible screaching came from the fuel pump and near the fuel filter. it took a few cycels of Acc on/off to narrow it down. after a bit the fuel filter screech went away, but the fuel pump sounded horrible still. kinda sounded kinda like the fuel pump was running dry. i swapped out the fuel pump with a new one and it's better, but still having trouble pushing it uphills hard. and still mkaes the noise, but not as bad. i can cruise at 65 on flat, but faster or up grades and it will lag. ideas about what's up? i'm guessing clogged fuel filter intake, but dont wanna do the work withough due diligence in makign sure its not somthing else. FYI, i have been running biodiesel for the last 5 years, occasional commercial as needed. i know the fuel filter is good as i changed it recently.
anybody provide a solid link to how to clean the fuel intake screen? i havent done this before and dont want surprises.
also, anything else i shoudl do while i am in there? is it worth doing the hutch or harpoon on the 2002 excursion? anyone else can give me actualy results on the smae year/model?
i tried looking for the link to the IPT kit but couldnt find it. anyone got a direct link?
