running rough

Hello all, I have a 06 6.0. All winter its not been wanting to start unless its plugged in. If its plugged in, it starts just fine. Last Thursday on my way to work, it was running rough, like 1 cylinder wasn't firing. Last time it acted like this, it was my FICM. Exactly 1 year ago. Called the folks at ficmrepair.com because that's where I got it, and they talked to me about it. They talked me into getting the scan guage II. Which I did. Ed out there had me put in the correct codes, and its reading 48 for the FICM at all times. So, weve established that's not the problem. The batteries were reading 11 volts/amps whichever it is. he said that although its low, he didn't think that was the problem. He thought it could be something that tells me if some oil valve was working correctly. I cant remember that name. He said he needed the numbers after its been sitting all night, not plugged in. He said that if the number was in the 70's or 80's when I started it cold, that means that I have a high pressure oil leak or something. Wouldn't it be higher anyway because the oil is cold, and harder to force through the lines? What Im afraid of, is that my ERG cooler went to hell again, and took out my head gaskets, AGAIN. That was a 3K fix not 30K miles ago. If that's the case, Im dumping this piece of garbage, and buying a cummins. What do you guys think? Am I on the right track as to whats wrong? I love this truck, I love the power it has when its running correctly, I just cant afford to drop this much money into it all the time. So far Ive replaced the EGR cooler, the head gaskets, the FICM, and the front hubs. That's close to 5K in repairs that I shouldn't have to make.

Id like to stay ford, but they want WAY too much to go BACK to a 7.3, and they want way too much to bump up to the 6.7. My price range is the 6.4 years, but Ive read that one is a pooch and junk as well. I don't want a duramax, so the only thing I feel comfortable with is the cummins. Im sure they've had some issues over the years as well, but that's a time tested engine, and I don't think they've had near the problems that ford has with the 6.0 and 6.4....

Thanks for all your imput!

Ryan
