2002 F250 ESOF not engaging - Status - GEM

My ESOF hasn't worked for quite a while . (Transfer case motor engages, 4 low and 4 high works fine but never applies vacume to the hubs as the solenoid isn't getting the signal from the (GEM) General Electronic Module.

The switch, 4x4 lights, etc are all fine and even the auto locking hubs are fine when they get the vacume. I've troubleshot down to the fact that the solenoid on the passenger fire wall isn't getting the "call/signal" from the "Module". (I faked out the solenoid and everything works like it should. If I keep the manual hubs locked, it all works, just don't want to keep it all locked in for MPG reasons.

What I've found is it appears the "GEM" General Electronic Modules have been moved, redesigned and such through out the years on these trucks.

I've read where the 2002 was all in one module, then I've read where they are separate modules... some say the GEM was mounted above the fuse block, etc, but in my 2002 Truck it is not. Keep in mind, my 2002 was built 07/2001 and it didn't have the F250 superduty windshield, nor did it have the 525lb/ft sticker on the rear glass, so I didn't know if mine was more like a 2001, or 2002... (my buddy's late production 2002 had all these)

I looked behind the glove box and didn't find a module there, so i went after the one behind the radio, and seen what one which is called VSM (Vehicle Security Module and was told it would need programmed by FORD pt#2C7T-15K602-AF on the module (Crosses to a 4C7Z-15A604-A by dealership) on my (built in July 2001) 2002 F250 CC 4x4.

SO, after ordering one through the dealership.. (it was back ordered for 2 months), I thought I'd dig further... and fortunately discovered that I don't think this is the MODULE I should be targeting, as on my truck there is yet another Module ABOVE the Glovebox, not BEHIND it like I had read elsewhere. You must open the GLOVEBOX, and look up :). I then found what I believe is the 4x4 GEM Multi Function Module which is sometimes refered to as the SHIFT module Pt# on Module is 2C3T-14B205-AA - (Crosses to a 3C3Z-14B205-AA by Dealership). (also noticed when I unplugged it and replugged it in after inspecting for obvious issues, my radio turned on - so it has something to do with more than the 4x4)

To go one step further, I had dealership look for a GEM for my truck based on the VIN, and it to pointed to the 3C3Z part number as well. (Best price I could get with our shop discount was 223.64 + tax) So, I decided to look EBAY and found ford-parts-depot selling NIB units for 173.42 shipped. (What is misleading with all of this, is the picture they show is the GEM that supposedly is mounted to the Fuse block but states the correct PT number.

All in all, I've discovered that F*50s, Explorers, Excursions, etc must be sharing all these modules. Mine fortunately didn't have windshield leaks which appears to take out some of these modules. So I'm somewhat taking an educated guess that this module will solve my (solenoid signal) issue with my ESOF.

Will post my fingings, once I get it. but it's been a cluster of a mess trying to find what my truck had as far as VSM, GEM, Shift Modules, and their corresponding locations.

I know this isn't the GREATEST/Clearest write up, but hopefully this will help some other poor sole.... if they find it on a Google/Diesel Site search as you get a variety of pictures and misleading info when you search for these PT #'s

Regards
