Smoke after new injector seals

Guys,

The last two Sundays I pulled all my injectors and put new seals on them. Last Sunday I did the drivers side. It took me a long time but I'm anal and cross my I's and dot my T's. Learning curve you know! Fired it up and drove it around and it smoked like a steam engine for a short time and then cleared up. Side one done.

Today I did the pax side. The oil dip stick tube was a *****. The bolt that the standoff is attached to was welded solid to the standoff with rust and the end into the head broke away first. I ended up cutting off the standoff to get the valve cover bolt out and welded the standoff back together when done. I managed to somehow break off the dip stick handle in the process. No big deal as new ones seem plentiful.

While under the valve covers pulling injectors I also pulled all the glow plugs. Two where bad but I replace all of them. I measured the poppet clearance on all the injectors and all of them measured .004" so I think the injectors are in pretty good shape for 231000 miles.

The problem. After finishing the pax side I fired her up and she again smoked like a steam engine. After a short drive she still fogged a lot so I came home and had a beer. Its oil burning by the smell of it. Blue white and no acrid diesel smell to it.

Later on the wife and I took another spin down the highway and pushed it hard up the hills (i live at 8500' in Colorado so there be lots of hills) and the smoke seems to have diminished but there is still some after hard acceleration up the hills. Maybe I'm being picky but I never remember blue/white smoke except when its -30F outside.

Did I screw up one of the oil seals? Should I drive it more and see if it clears up? My experience is that if something is broke it never fixes itself.
