I have a strange battery question. It is geared toward the 7.3L IDI owners w/ the 1992, 1993 and maybe 1994 years.
A friend has a 92 or 93 diesel van. Both batteries are under the hood like in my 1990 (but redesigned body). BUT, they are not matched groups! I thought it was an error, cheap previous owner. But when I did some research, it specs a group 65 AND a group 50 battery! One tray is obvousely smaller then the other, so they couldn't be both group 65s.
Why would Ford do this from the factory? I thought it was generally accepted that both batteries had to be the same group and/or CC/CCA ratings. Wouldn't doing that bring down the average CCA rating??? Am I missing something???
