OK folks long time since the force brought me back:lol: I need the old experts and diesel Doctors to chime in here. Truck has been running 100% for quiet some time, until now.
I need the experts help here as I am off on vacation next week with the 5er that weighs 3x the horse trailer and do not want a messed up trip. Saturday I had the following situation with my 04 truck while on a short trip (65 miles) to the vet with my wife's horse.
Here is the situation: Going down hill (7000feet to 5800ft), everything normal, but on the trip back.....
F350 pulling horse trailer. trailer is about 3K + one horse = 4.5 K behind truck with 4:10 gearing. Altitude about 6500 feet pulling up a 5% grade in tow Haul mode at 60 MPH. I got a stall situation with the turbo making a clearing the throat noise (simular to a full load back off noise situation). At each cough the truck bucked with power loss. It did this for 4 or 5 times at about 2 second intervals.
After cresting the hill I tried to recreate by accelerating hard, etc. I even stopped for a rest break and checked the air filter check indicator - everything normal. Nothing on the dash showed abnormal either. Boost gauge showed everything normal, however I did not get a chance to see during the event. Trans and exhaust temps normal too. I had several stops and turns and even under hard acceleration I could not get it to occur again. Today I checked the air filter - everything OK.
So what might be the cause. Truck has 90K on it. I had planned on a full service Tuesday before the trip anyway, but wanted to start somewhere. On the trip I have some very steep grades to climb, and need 100% reliability as service is a ways away.
Thanks
