Truck is a 2002 f350. 7.3/ Riding on 38 inch swampers. Had a HD rebuild done last year, replaced the water pump and coolant flushed it about 5weeks ago.
Couple weeks ago I went riding, was towing an equipment trailer with 5 quads and some dirt bikes, trans temp gauge was reading 200-210 but the dummy gauge in the dash was fine.
I'm in outer banks NC this week and today I went on the sand for ill say 3+ miles, trans temp started shooting up, and the idiot gauge went to yellow so I pulled off the road and idled till it got to a normal temp, stayed in drive the while time, tried running in 2nd but was running the same rpms that I was in drive. No damage occurred but got me really confused as to why the temp shot up that high both times. Do I need a bigger trans cooler or an auxiliary cooler? Im not too sure.
