Metal in the oil system

Hi all, I am a 7.3 guy but am looking at picking up a 2003 6.0 F250 with a bad motor and have a few questions I am hoping you can help me with. The truck appears to be a good deal, and as long as I would not have to dump to much into the engine, I would like to get it. I would re-build it myself, but do not have any experience with the 6.0 so would like some opinions. All I know about the motor is that a piece of metal broke off something in the low pressure oil system and went through to the hi press. system. Here is what the owner said: "A small hard piece of metal(spindle?) broke off from a defective part in the low oil pressure system and then traveled to the high pressure oil system. I believe they left a new high pressure oil pump in the truck. I had them stop diagnosing at that point. I don’t have the money to repair it."

I am wondering what you think broke and how extensive the damage is best and worst case scenario.

If I re-built it I would probably put in ARP studs, and a EGR delete. Like I said, I am not looking to get it and dump a bunch of money in it, but would like to have a good reliable truck. I understand the different opinions on the 6.0, and am really not looking to start a thread about what a pile it is or isn't:icon_wink:

Thank you for any help!
Mike
