First is concerning the Commercial Operators requirement. In Canada, is there the same 26 000 pound limit as there is in the states?
Second, if I can tow a trailer without exceeding the GVWR or GCWR, but still be over the "tow rating," what is the purpose of the tow rating? Example is if the truck has a 23 000 lbs GCWR, and a GVWR of 11 400. A 12 700 lbs bumper pull trailer (max tow) will be 200 pounds over the 12 500 lbs limit of the factor class V hitch. However, in all other aspects it is under capacity. with 10% tongue weight, it puts the truck at approx 9000 lbs, 2400 lbs below GVWR, and a nice even 22 000 lbs, 1000 below GCWR.
What I'm getting at is, if I had a hitch that was rated for 14k+ WD, would I be able to tow up to a 14k trailer, thus taking advantage of the full range of the GCWR? Or am I still limited to the original 12 700 lbs on the sticker?
Last, when calculating GCWR and legality to tow, is the max GWR on the trailer sticker counted towards the GCWR, or the actual weight of the trailer?
