I have a 12 F350 dually and it has been a pretty good truck so far. A couple weeks ago I brought it in for a pinion leak seal and it got fixed and everything is good.
I went on vacation last week and when I got home this weekend I was outside moving my trailer around the yard and I started smelling strong diesel exhaust. Not out the tail pipe kind, but the untreated pre-DPF kind of diesel smell. I thought my neighbor may have had his truck running so I shut off the truck and no, the neighbor was not home. I started the truck back up and could smell it again so I pulled it in the garage.
I did some searching around the truck and was able to locate the smell strongly when I opened the hood and it was coming from around the back of the engine where the turbo is. I remember reading about the TSB on the pressure sensor but it was tight and could not really get my hand in there to feel a leak anywhere else so I dropped it off at the dealer today.
I get a call this afternoon that they could not find anything wrong and no smell. I went over to pick it up and they told me they would keep the ticket open since I am close the the end of my warranty and if it gets worse to come back. I went out and started the truck and popped the hood, and I could smell it right away. I went back in and brought the service writer out and he stood there and told me he could not smell anything but hot plastic. I could plainly smell it although, it may not have been as strong as the night before, but it was very obvious to me. I offered to let them keep the truck overnight and they told me it wasn't necessary as he couldn't smell anything.
Not sure what I can do at this point? Anyone have a similar issue? My warranty runs out on the 22nd so I would like this to get fixed, but not sure if I have any path forward at this point.
