I have a 2002 7.3 PSD and will be rebuilding my stock turbo next month. I am having surge issues and will be installing a WW2, and since i'll have the turbo out anyways I want to service it.
I have read a ton on here and other forums about the rebuild. That being said, I pulled the intake tube off today to inspect my compressor wheel etc. The wheel doesn't look too bad and I can feel ZERO play up/down, side to side, in/out.
Because of this I don't plan on buying a new center cartridge, just rebuilding the bearings.
My question is, should I do anything specific to check for play in the shaft other than feeling by hand? I don't want to order my parts, pull the turbo, and then realize that I need a new center cartridge afterall.
