Max. Tire Size Verification

Forgive me for not doing a search. I was wondering if anyone that is a Van owner (specifically E-350) with NO LIFT KITS installed could tell me if they know that a 285x75 R16 can fit on the vehicle without rubbing anywhere?
Also any opinions about mounting that tire on the factor supplied steel 7 inch wide rim? My research has seemed to indicate that it is just fine to do.
BUT as you (might) know....All the tire company's (Sears, Pep Boys, Tire Kingdom, Discount Tire...) and whatever name is in your locality, will punch into their computers and only mount the tire size (recommended) and (approved) by the tire & rubber manufacture's association) or whatever the hell organization it is that sets the limits on tire & rim size for safety reasons. Most of the tire sellers WILL mount & balance the (oversized) tire for you but will NOT install it. (Which is just fine with me!) I don't need them gorilla pounding the lugs on with their air impact guns or destroying my nice new chrome lug nuts either with the same.
Hate to get home with 4 mounted 285x75's and find out that every time I turn the wheel to some point it rubs on the wheel well or fender or whatever. The MAXIMUM tire (supposedly) allowed is the 265 mm wide.
But I think that limit was established more to safely accommodate the known 7 inch supplied rim on these vehicles, Not about clearance issues.
Could I get some input from any of you guys that might have first hand experience with this. The 285's look like they would (LOOK) awesome for making my van look like a real off road machine! I might even have to find a 4x4 sticker somewhere just so I don't have to keep telling people that it sucks for off roading because it's 0nly a 2x4. The ***** gets stuck in my driveway when there is as little as 3 inch's of snow! LOL... Forget about trying to drive on the beaches in Daytona or the Outer Banks of Carolina.
Any input appreciated. It's a LOT of money for tires & I hate to make a BIG mistake. Thank you, DDT
