I am trying to make a purchased decision between two vehicles. I will be towing 20-22k 5th wheel. I will either purchase 2013 F350 or F450 and want to "know for sure" the real differences betwenn the two vehicles when both are DRW, 4x4, Diesel, Crew Cab Long bed.
Per Ford sales literature, the difference is the rear-end differential 3.73 on 350 and 4.1 on 450. I don't see anything else.
I have read in forums on prior year models that brakes are different and that the front end on the 450 is wider for better turn radius but I don't see any of that in literature or when shopping parts.
Ford dealers are of no help. They say well, the 450 is a heavier truck or a beefier truck or some such nonsense.
Will somebody with a mechanical background that has worked on these two 2013 trucks please tell me what, if any differences, there are other than the rear end? And, can just the differential give it another 2000 pounds of fifth wheel towing?
I already know that gas mileage on 450 is lower due to rear end differential and that insurance in Florida will have to be commercial line rather than personal.
