What DEF? Why DEF? Why not DEF?

Will you please post a link to an explanation of what DEF does for us - why do these trucks have DEF - and can and should we just remove the DEF system.

Is DEF the cause of these power losses and shudders during regen?

And is DEF the root of valve troubles on the left head?
