Driving home today my battery light came on. I shut off the AC and the radio and about ten minutes later, which was a few blocks from my house, the light went off. Since the batteries are about 5 months old I assume the alternator is the problem.
I've looked up how to lock and unlock the tensioner for the belt. Very slick. I've also learned that driving with a bad alternator can kill the FICM so I will hold off on driving the truck until this is fixed.
Since I'll be replacing the factory alternator, 10 years old with 114k miles on it, I'm tempted to spend the bucks on another Motorcraft. Any others that are considered better, or would a Duralast from AutoZone be just as good?
