A couple months ago I got ahold of an f-250 super duty. This is my first diesel truck so I don't really know squat about them right now. I got the truck on a good deal and it needed a few things which I started slowly collecting. The last thing I am in need of is a PCM which did not come with the truck, not realizing this would turn into a big ordeal (or so it seems as of now). I've felt like researching this whole subject has been a full time job this last week, but I still have a few questions. The two areas where the calibration codes are suppose to be listed are not there. (Door tag and on the PCM itself which obviously is gone) it's a 99.5 7.3 4x4 auto. I called ford with no help from them because I don't have that code. I started looking online and saw that some people had changed there 1999 PCM with either 2000-2001 with great results as far as shifting, maybe a little more power and a little bit quieter. I looked on car-part and there's multiple options, as far as low emission and standard emissions and then about 4 different options in those category's ? I'm assuming low emissions is a California thing? And if I was able to find a computer online as far as Craigslist or car-part, what do I need to look for? Obviously 7.3 and auto but does it need to be from a 4x4 truck? Any thing else, or am I basically screwed without my original calibration code?
