Truck won't stay running

Last week truck has been sounding like it's running out of fuel even with a full tank. I replaced fuel filter and and the screen in the tank cleaned along with new assembly in the tank. Then Last Saturday while towing my boat to the lake my truck 1999 250 started pouring out white smoke and lost all power. I pulled over checked all fluid levels and all were perfect. Well we turned around to head home about 15 miles from our house and on way back truck would not do over 20 miles per hour. Pulled over again and this time called father in law come hook up to the boat so I could limp the truck home. On way home without the boat hooked up the truck turned off twice but fired back up. I left the truck in driveway all weekend and on Monday I went out and truck fired right up like the day I bought it. Ran it around the block several times and then it started running rough and turned off only this time it wouldn't start back up. I was able to coast it back to the house. I tried to restart it and smoke would come out of the exhaust and would finally crack but as soon as it would crank it would die again. Exhaust smells like diesel. I let it sit about 30 minutes and it fired back up. I parked it for the night. Next morning truck fired right up I took the oil cap off and flipped it upside down and it didn't blow off. I then put my hand over the opening to feel it there was blow by and nothing that was not normal.

After about 5 minutes I would say the truck just shut down and wouldn't start back up.
I checked for oil in fuel there is none also checked oil in coolant there is none in there or coolant in the oil.
I have also replaced the fuel filter as well. And inspected it and it still looks brand new. While trying to crank the rpm do come up on the gauge to I figure that rules out the Cps being bad.
Needing some help thanks guys!
