I've been hearing a slight noise from somewhere in my driveline for a while now, it varies with road speed and remains the same whether I'm under a load, engine braking, floating, or coasting. I haven't noticed what happens when I apply the brakes, simply because I'm generally going slowly enough not to hear it at that point and if I slam them on to avoid someone I'm not paying attention. Over the weekend it got more noticeable, most likely due to putting 600-odd miles on towing a trailer. The best way I can describe it is a a whirring hum, it's not howling like a bad bearing. By the time I got home last night and unloaded the truck I didn't feel like crawling underneath and checking things out, but the only thing I can think of that always moves at road speed and that's not a bearing is the ring & pinion. Maybe if I'm not lazy tonight I'll drop the driveshaft and see if the noise is there while going through the gears, but until then does anyone have any ideas?
