I know about enough information to confuse me and I hope someone much smarter than me can save me from wasting my time and money (Disclaimer: banks money).
I currently have a small grocery delivery business that I bought a truck for several years ago used. The truck is a 2001 Freightliner FL60 with a GVWR of 23,000. At the moment the FL60 has about every problem with it. To repair it and make it pretty looks like a $8k-$10K bill. The curb weight of this unit is 9,500lbs and the box weight is 7,500lbs which allows for a payload of 4,500lbs. The max amout of groceries that can be loaded is 4,000lbs and it gets lighter as the night goes on.
I have found this vehicle Used 2008 Ford F-550 Heavy Trucks For Sale In OAKVILLE ON - autoTRADER.ca which is a ford f550 that has a gvw of 19,000lbs and a curb weight of 7,100lbs for a payload weight of 4300lbs if I was to move over the 7,600lbs box to this unit.
This is the question. What the heck am I missing???? how can a fl60 and a f550 have the same payload weight? Is the f550 going to hold up?
The truck will always be used in town with a large amount of stopping and starting. The guys stop the truck, deliver the order for about 10 minutes than go to the next stop. Is purchasing this f550 a good idea or do I need something bigger? Will I take out a transmission or engine?
Please help!
