New to diesels and after 3 days, regretting it...

I just traded in my Nissan Titan on a 08 F-250 6.4L Crew Cab Long bed 4x4 and was ecstatic because I have always loved the way they look and sound. That is changing very quickly though after only a few days.

I picked up the vehicle on Thursday from a small dealership about 150 miles from me. On the way home, the wrench light came on. I was low on fuel, and not being familiar with this vehicle, thought that maybe that was the problem. I fueled up ($130 ouch) and when I started the truck back up, the light was off, so I thought that the low fuel was the problem. The light came on again on the way home so I stopped at advanced auto to have them read the code. It came back as no problem. The truck made it home fine and after doing some research, I began learning about the possible problems.

I took it on a long trip, about 300 miles, yesterday and the light came on after about 30 minutes on the highway. I kept an eye on the gauges and everything seemed to be normal. An hour or so into the trip, I went to pass someone and when I pressed the peddle, the truck shuddered and bucked and spewed white smoke out of the exhaust but after feathering the peddle a bit, it calmed down and accelerated. That's when I began to worry.

On my way back, I stopped at a Ford dealership who was nice enough to hook it up and tell me the problem for only $109 :( The problem came back as DTC P012F ECT 197 EOT 227 - Need an oil cooler. After a lengthy conversation, I found out that for only $2419.31 they would be happy to replace it. I about fell over.

When I purchased the truck, I knew it needed tires, so I beat them up on price a bit and purchased tires and a front end alignment on Friday for $1300. Yesterday I was told that I needed to spend another $2400~ to fix my new truck. I have been reading all morning about people having this done and it being clogged again in a few hundred miles.

I am not made of money and do not have disposable income. So far this truck has caused nothing but aggravation and I am regretting my decision. I did talk to the dealership where I bought it who is willing to cover half of the repair cost and they are sending me a check for $1200 on Monday, but still... what if it happens again in a few hundred miles?

I have read someplace about flushing the system with vc9 and running distilled water to help get rid of the crap that's clogging the system. Does anyone have any suggestions to help clean this system out or possible unplug this cooler? I find it hard to believe that the only fix is to replace and hope that it doesn't happen again.

Has anyone added a second cooler to the system to help keep the temps down? Thoughts on this? IPR External Oil Cooler Kit? Bullet Proof?

I am all ears, so PLEASE fill me in on any secret, tips, tricks, advice, suggestions, etc. I am beyond frustrated with this thing already.

Also, I was wanting to do a DPF delete and tune it for better fuel mileage, as I'm not much of a racer any more and drive long miles on the weekends. Any thoughts on the Edge Evolution CS?

Anyone have suggestions on a shop that they would highly recommend around the Tampa / Clearwater area? I'm looking for a good shop that I can take this thing to and trust that they have my best interest in mind.

Thanks, and sorry for my first post being such a long rant.
