Bought this 2wd, 2001, F250 crew cab, 7.3l diesel brand new in 2001 and have put 205,000 miles on it with very few problems. Replaced the cam position sensor a few years ago. Anyway, now it does this thing where it randomly starts running badly and the "service engine soon" light comes on instantly. It may stay on a while or go off after a few minutes. Recently, I had a good whole month of normal running. But the problem came back yesterday. When it happens it will still make enough power to go 85mph or faster but it shakes quite a bit so I did that for diagnostic data only. Got a laser temp gun today and the front cylinder exhaust area on the driver's side exhaust manifold was about 100 degrees after a couple minutes running but the manifold everywhere else was way hotter....like 179 degrees and going up fast. (The other manifold was all hot too.) So what do you guys think? Is wire chafing an issue on my model. Where do I look for it? Is it an injector freaking out? Do I need new injectors? (MPG has gone down quite a bit over the years.) Is it the uvch coming loose? (It has never run like a whole bank of cylinders cut out. More like just one cylinder.) Thanks for the advice.
