Morning All - New guy on the forum, but I've been stalking awhile....so hi!!
I'm flying to Denver at the end of the week to pick up my new to me 99 F250 (4x4, auto, extended cab, lb) and drive it back to Tulsa. The truck has 288k on the motor and 50k on the rebuilt trans. I bought it off my dad who is the second owner, and has taken care of it. 2 weeks ago, my wife was up there and driving it, when it lost power a mile from my folks place and struggled to get it up to 20 mph. When she parked it, the CEL went out and it started idling normal. She drove it around the block and it was fine. My dad replaced the CPS and it happened again a few days later. Talking to his Powerstroke guy in Denver, and me searching the forums, concluded it was the harness under the valve covers.
I was hoping he was going to be able to fix it, but his last round of chemo really did him in. I'm flying in Thurs afternoon and need to fix the truck asap. He has all the tools I'll need. I'm fairly mechanically inclined (I did a stock diesel conversion on an 88 IDI I recently sold). I wanted to know about how long it generally takes to replace gaskets/harnesses? And if there where any gotchas I should know about?
Thanks and sorry for the long post,
Shades
