FORD: 2013 F-Super Duty

ISSUE:

Some 2013 F-Super Duty pick-up vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit an intermittent surge or hesitation at low speed tip-in acceleration, without any associated Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). These conditions may be associated with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software.
ACTION:

Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 88.03 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at Buy Motorcraft Parts Online | Official Motorcraft Auto Parts Site | FordParts.com.


NOTEÂ Â PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
OPERATION DESCRIPTION TIME 140015A 2013 F-Super Duty 6.7L: Check DTCs And Reprogram The PCM Includes Time To Clear Codes (Do Not Use With Any Other Labor Operations) 0.6 Hr.


WARRANTY STATUS

Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage.
Warranty/ESP coverage limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. Warranty/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool.

Any 6.7 owners had this issue of an intermittent surge or hesitation at low-speed tip-in? I figured it would have been mentioned here if it was common enough to generate a TSB but I this is the first I have seen it. Wonder what the PCM update does exactly?
