Considering dropping a 1999 7.3 in an 05 6.0

I currently have a 2005 6.0L with a leaking head gasket problem, if it blows and ceases my engine could a 1999 7.3 be dropped in the truck even though the computer is programmed for a newer model and completely different engine?

Any help is appreciated.
