I have an '05 F350 withe the 6.0L. I drove to work the other day and the check engine light came on. I parked, worked the day (it sat for about 9 hours) and then went to drive it home. It started and idled very rough but seemed to even out with higher RPMs. I pulled out of my parking spot and made it about 200 feet. It lost all power, started running rough and then died.
It has been cold here (Massachusetts) and I thought maybe I had some gelled fuel. I went back the next day with my tools, changed out both fuel filters and added some additive.
Now the truck cranks and acts like it is trying to start (very rough) and blows black smoke out the exhaust. I got a friend to help me get it home with his flatbed trailer and now I have to figure out what is going on..
There is fuel pressure (I had the key on and cracked open the engine mount fuel filter cap, fuel pushed out under pressure.) I disconnected the IPC (passenger side valve cover) and it made no difference. I pulled the EGR valve and it looks good (it's less than 5k miles old)
The truck has had an aftermarket EGR cooler, new oil cooler, new EGR valve, all 8 injectors, new FICM done within the last 8 months. HPOP was rebuilt with the upgraded seals and connectors about a year ago.
I am trying to round up a code reader to see what I can find there. In the meantime, I printed the sticky from this forum on troubleshooting no-starts and plan to start down that checklist as soon as I have the batteries charged back up (from trying to start it yesterday).
In the meantime, I am wondering if it could be an IPR valve? Any experiences, ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
