Sorry if this is redundant, but I just got back from the dealer and I'm still in shock. I take the truck in because we had a terrific snow storm last week and as I'm driving in to work, the truck goes into "reduced power"" mode. The check engine light comes on and I'm barely moving.

When I get to work, I check under the hood and there is a good amount of snow on the engine, there is snow inside the air filter intake. We let it sit in the heat, take out the air filter and dry it out. I drive home later in the day and all the warning lights are out except the check engine light, Also have the damned "cleaning exhaust filter" message on the dash for quite a while. It also goes off. I drive home (50 miles) and the truck runs normally.

The next day I jump in it and the check engine light is off, truck drives fine. Over the weekend, we get more snow and as I'm warming the truck up, the "check engine" light comes back on It stayed on for a while and then it turns off.

Took the truck to the dealer today so they can pull codes and the dealer calls me and says both upper and lower t-stats are bad, air filter needs to be replaced and since they are changing the t-stats, they want to flush the cooling system. He then tells me the DEF filter needs to be "manually" regenerated and if they can fix it, it will only be $950.00 for the work. If the filter is bad, the filter alone is $1900.00.

The truck has 90k on the clock, I don't drive it hard, oil changes at 7500 miles and fuel filters changed every second oil change. I do pull a 10k fifth wheel occasionally, but not more than 3 times a year.

And of course, the truck is 1 month out of the engine warranty. While the $900 is a bitter pill to swallow, the prospect of $1900 for a part is a killer.

I've thought about modifying the truck, but don't want to do anything that will mess with it's reliability.

I'm at a loss and am looking for advice from this forum.
