headlights went out, scary stuff

driving home sat night my headlights suddenly went out. this was on an unlighted country dirt road, could not see squat. luckily was only going about 20. I stopped and turn the light switch on and off a couple of times and they came back on. Same thing happened a couple minutes later with the same remedy.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Any troubleshooting tips or just take it to the dealer. I hate intermittent electrical issues.
