quit while driving

Hi I am working on a 01 f550 and it was being driven and slowly lost power and died driver said like it ran out of fuel. It would not restart, had it towed then it starts and runs but wont idle the second he took his foot out of the pedal it quit.when it did run it was real clacky Now cranks but no start. I'm thinking fuel pressure but was hoping maybe this happend before to someone and they can help. Tried searching nothing quite like what happend here. I'm new to fords and hue I used to have dodges then I realized all i like was the engine and bought a ford... but that's another thread lol. Totally stock truck by the way
