My 2001. 7.3 liter F-350 Powerstroke is seriously sick. Here's what I tried so far.
1. 30 days ago while warming-up truck, it stalled out. I discovered massive quantities of oil on the ground beneath the drivers side of engine.
2. Drained all remaining oil and antifreeze, removing Oil filter and block heater.
3. Removed severely leaking OIL COOLER, ......... extremely difficult because of it's location!! Cleaned off tons of rust, repainted, and replaced with new O-rings and both end-gaskets, $70.00
4. Re-installed the oil filter and block heater. Added all NEW oil and antifreeze, $50.00
5. Truck started, after lengthily cranking, ran rough with white smoke out of muffler. Blew a hole in the original rusted/repainted OIL COOLER tube, puking oil and antifreeze all over the ground. This also resulted in antifreeze into the oil pan. Truck stalled out.
6. Again, draining all remaining oil and anti-freeze....... properly disposing of it.
7. Again removed OIL COOLER (taking a bath in anti-freeze because of my haste).
8. Bought and entire OIL COOLER replacement and re-installed it, $200.00
9. Added all NEW oil and antifreeze. Truck will NOT start. It turns-over OK but will NOT start. $50.00
10. I did unplug the ICP (Fuel Injector Pressure sensor) and tried starting........ Nope.
11. Checked the oil level in the HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pump) reservoir, added about a quart......... tried starting, Nope.
12. Removed the IPR valve (Injection Pressure Regulator) ....... extremely difficult because of it's location. Walked to the Ford garage, they want $47.78 plus tax for an IPR rebuild kit.......... Nope. I ordered one off Ebay for $12.75 w/free shipping. Checked O-rings, cleaned and re-installed.......... tried starting, Nope.
13. Bought 2 new batteries and installed..... tried starting, Nope. $242.75
14. Replaced the fuel filter, can hear the electric fuel pump working..... tried starting, Nope $26.00
15. Again, unplugged the ICP sensor.......... tried starting, Nope.
16. Block heater not working. Tested cord, OK. Drained all the antifreeze, replaced block heater, re-added antifreeze....... tried starting, Nope.
16. Ordered 2 new Glow-plug relays. $89.00
17. Almost forgot. Checked the 20 amp #22 fuse....... it's still good.
18. NOTE: last year at this time I replaced the CPS (Cam-shaft Position Sensor) with a new one from CARQUEST. Today I do get movement on my tachometer when attempting to start the truck, indicating that the CPS should be working? $39.00
It seems as though the engine is NOT getting fuel and there is NO smoke out of muffler when trying to start it. I know how to change out the glow-plugs and injectors but really don't want to go there until I can get into a heated garage (pole-barn). And I just hate the thought of having the damn thing towed to the dealer who charges $98.00 and hour with a 2 hour minimum for diagnostics. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
