2003 Excursion 6.0 4x4 with 140,000 miles
Ran fine on Saturday , on Monday morning it would barely build rpms, shifted slow, and just seemed like something was plugged up somewhere. Could hear turbo whistle but engine noise/exhaust overall sounded muted.
All factory electronics, no tuner, no chips
No check engine lights
Fluid levels checked
Catalytic converter deleted long ago
Trans temp / oil pressure / water temp all staying in check per factory gauges
Air filter is clear, have verified turbo is spinning by looking through inlet tube, checked vacuum lines, checked MAP hose for leaks, checked/cleared EBP tube (sensor itself was gummed up with crud, picked out most of it with toothpick)
At idle there is a noticeable sound from the air cleaner inlet area of rushing/sucking air that goes away if I manually unplug the VGT solenoid on the turbo. Unplugging the MAP sensor has no effect.
Upon one recent drive I accelerated hard, still feeling extremely sluggish and restricted, and kept my foot in it until the intercooler hose blew off the turbo outlet. Sluggish acceleration and restricted feeling still present with intercooler hose off turbo.
