Recently started noticing some spots of oil on the ground under the truck, particularly when it had been sitting idling. I looked underneath it and saw some oil dripping down the pan and filter. Figured it was a filter gasket or a pan gasket. I cleaned it off and then started it up to watch exactly where the leak was. Much to my horror it was coming from a hairline crack in the block, directly above the oil pan (drivers side).
First of all, what could have caused this? These are tough engines. About the last thing I expected was a cracked block. I bought the truck because I like the engine...arrg.
Secondly, what to do now? I'm really not wanting to hear scrap it....
Third, will it hurt to keep driving it?
It's a 2000 F250SD 7.3 with 195,000
