I'm determined to figure this issue out. The truck didn't spew white/grey smoke when it was newer but has gotten worse over the years in the winter. The smoke gets worse in that it happens at warmer temps and lasts longer the older the truck gets. I've got 160,000 miles and I can promise the glow plug system is working. I was parked at an office party (hotel) last night and the temps dropped to 10 below last night. I started it this morning around 8 degrees out after letting the plugs sit for about 45 seconds. It fired right off without a hiccup but smoked and smoked. There were no missing cylinders on startup but incomplete combustion. I hope to get my scan tool working later this week but I have to guess something else is going on. We drove home 110 miles (mostly interstate) and held cruise control at about 62. EGT was about 550 and I'm guessing I used about 5 gallons of fuel based on the guage. Mileage seemed to be great. No smoke while driving and other than the white startup smoke the truck is operating terrific for a 17 year old truck. I'm guessing ICP or IPR but am open to other things to look at.
