I have a 2004, F250, 6.0 diesel, Crew Cab, Short bed, 2wd, 73,000 miles. I just updated my signature with the particulars. The truck is stock, no programmer. It's basically been problem free. Starts easily. Delta is 3-6 degrees. Fuel pressure is 68-70.
The problem started the other day when I got off the freeway. I notice it stumbled at idle. The next day it started to smoke. A grey smoke at idle and turning darker if I stomp on it. It smokes whether cold or warm. The truck has plenty of power. You would not know there was a problem until you saw the smoke. All my gauges read within the proper parameters. No engine lights or codes that I can find.
I moved to Vermont from Low Angles in July. My truck has never been in cold weather. On many of the trips I take here, it doesn't get to operating temp (190). I thought this may be causing a problem with my egr valve coking-up. I removed it and there was a lot of dry carbon. I ordered a new one. It will be here Thursday. Otherwise Im off to the dealer.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks. Tim
