GPR Smoking

I installed a wicked wheel today and when I finished I started the truck up. I looked at the engine and saw smoke coming from the hot wire connection on the GPR. I cut the truck off and removed the wire. What could I have done to short out the GPR? I don't want to buy a new one until I know something is not shorting it out. Hopefully it's just failed.
Ideas?
