Have any of you tried to remove the tailgate step and plastic trim cap that runs along the top of the tailgate? How would one go about doing this? I'm headed for Disney next year and I need to install my old Leer camper shell on my 2012 to keep my luggage dry. The camper shell was originally purchased to fit the 2000 super duty in my avatar and that truck's tailgate cap didn't have the contoured shape like my 2012 SD. The contoured shaped cap and step do not fit flush against the flat camper shell lid when I close it. I wonder if removing the cap and step might reveal a flat tailgate surface that my camper lid might fit nicely up against. Once I return from my trip I would remove the shell and reinstall the cap and step. I don't want to have to spend $1300 on new shell when the old one is in really nice shape. Thanks in advance.
