First let me start off by saying this truck has been the absolute best truck I have ever owned.... and that is saying something.
I purchased this truck on Memorial Day in 2011 new. Since that time I have performed all of the maintenance myself with the exception of a transmission service that I had done at a local transmission shop and everything has checked out perfectly. I haven't had a single issue... not so much as a drop of oil anywhere in 80,000 miles.
On 11/12/13... I was picking my wife up at the local ford dealer (she was having some warranty work done on her 2013 Explorer). I inquired as to how much they charged for a simple oil change? $109 and we rotate the tires was their response. Since I was pressed for time and my girl (truck) was about 500 miles over due I decided to let them do the oil change.
Well its been just over 10 days and approximately 140 miles since they completed their work. While out doing some yard work today, I noticed some oil drops on my driveway. Surely these are not from my truck! :nono:
I climbed underneath and sure enough there was oil dripping from the filter. :icon_mad::icon_mad::icon_mad::icon_mad::icon_mad:
I immediately picked up the phone and shared my frustration with the service manager (kudos that he was even there on a Saturday). He asked me to bring it over to inspect / fix so I did. I figured it was a loose filter or something simple... but that was not the case. After inspection, he stated that the oil filter was tight and the oil was leaking from two different spots on the motor. One forward and one somewhere on the right side.
He said they didn't have any diesel mechanics on duty until Monday, but they would be happy to check it out for me. I initially left the truck there but later went back.
I haven't heard of many people having issues with the 2011 and newer 6.7L but know that you can't overfill these motors or your risk blowing seals. Did they over fill it? I pulled the dip stick and it is spot on in the middle of the safe zone. Did they over fill it, start the engine, stop the engine, check the level and remove excess? Would that have been enough time to blow seals?
I thought to myself if they can't do a simple oil change without screwing up why should I leave it with them to do major repairs? :icon_mad:
I'm now living in southern Washington State... Looking for recommendations of "top notch" dealerships in northern Oregon or Southern Washington.
